Aylesbury  Advanced  Motorists
Thousands of motorcyclists complete the IAM advanced riding programme, Skill for Life, every year. Bikers' feedback is impressive - the experience is enjoyable, the coaching is excellent, and bikers often say Skill for Life was one of the best things they have ever done.
If you're passionate about biking, or simply want to stay safe on two wheels, then we can help give your skills a boost. Advanced riding will improve your technique, increase your ability and confidence, and ultimately get most out of the whole riding experience.

See below for information on getting a Skill for Life.

Bike group events and meetings
AAM is primarily representing the IAM and we need to retain the help and experience that full members and Observers can offer. We do that by planning our own events and runs to attract them.

Events and group rides help members to keep up their skills and refresh their interest in advanced riding. AAM gets the benefit of a body of experienced riders to help the associate members learn.

Bike group training sessions are held every 2nd Saturday from 10am to 2pm meeting at the Baptist Church Hall, Green End Street, Aston Clinton, HP22 5EX (click here for map).

All members are welcome to attend these sessions which are always carefully organised so that they are applicable to all abilities.
Monthly bike social meet
In addition to the group meetings, bike meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month at the Deepmill Diner, on the Amersham to Wendover road (click here for map) and start around 7pm.

The bike meetings are a great way for new associate members to meet each other, as well as getting to know the Observers and other full members of the group; or just a general chin wag with other bikers.

Get a Skill for Life and we can help you improve your riding and pass the IAM advanced test
Skill for Life is the IAM's most popular membership option, giving you everything you need to pass your advanced driving test and become a full Member of the IAM - in one payment of £139

The Skill for Life package includes:

  • The IAM book "How to be a better rider"

  • "Advanced Driving" the IAM's tri-annual Members' magazine

  • An initial assessment (carried out by your local IAM Group)

  • All test preparation work (undertaken by your local IAM Group)

  • Entry into the advanced riding test

  • IAM Associate status, with an automatic upgrade to full Membership of the IAM (upon passing the advanced test)

Preparation for the Advanced Test is conducted by fully trained and IAM qualified volunteer Observers from your local IAM Group. Each group organises their Observed runs locally. Most people can achieve "Test standard" after 6-8 observed runs (typically a fortnight apart), so you could be "Test ready" in 12-16 weeks.
