General Advanced Driving Questions
Q. How much does it cost?
Details of Membership Fees can be found on the Membership Page - this will direct you to the IAM site where current fees are displayed.
Q. How long will it take to pass the test?
Everybody is different and we do not set any time limits. After you have completed your first observed run your appointed Observer will have a good idea as to how much time may be required. Your Observer will work with you for as long as is needed until you are ready to take the IAM test.
Q. I'm not sure if it's for me - what should I do?
If you are unsure as to whether the test is for you why not come along to one of our Group Meetings where you will be able to talk through the process with an Observer and even speak with people who have taken the test. There's no obligation and nobody will put any pressure on you to sign up.
Q. What if I drive an automatic car?
Both manual and automatic cars (and their owners) are welcome. We even have Observers who specialise in automatics and who will be able to help with any particular issues you may have.
Q. I think I'm a very nervous driver?
Not a problem. Our Observers will spend as long as is needed to help you overcome any nerves you have. Once you've had a couple of runs you soon realise just how simple learning advanced driving techniques can be.
